Not the best of days on the AT today. We cruised the 6+ miles into town this morning under dark skies. Our clothes, yes, still covered in a thick film of sweat since humidity was 99.9%. Just before town, we passed over Claredon Gorge on a very cool suspension bridge. It was a steep drop from the bridge to the river, with plenty of swimming holes. Our first stop in town, the Whistle Stop, a supposedly great restaurant. It was good alright. So good that I ate two lunches. Yum, yum.
The second stop was Oasis Sports, a small Outfitter who was holding our maildrops. We talked to the very nice folks here for a while, and thanked them for holding our packages. You can visit them at www.oasissports.com
Finally, we hit the trail, but cut our 6 miles short for 2 reasons. First, the shelter we wanted to go to is a party shelter and its Saturday. Second, it was POURING! I don’t mean steady rain, I mean an all out downpour. Anyway, we spent the rest of the day with 2 Southbounders, Click-Click and Forrest.
Also, we are only going 16 miles tomorrow to the Long Trail Inn. Man, Guiness. Well, it is really late since the four of us played cards all night. Until next entry.
