Great day all around today. Dad showed up in the morning behind the church bearing gifts in the form of coffee and juice. After packing up the car with all of our extra gear, we headed out. The climb over Graylock was surprisingly easy, since all of the elevation is spread out over many gradual climbs. Along the way, dad got to meet several other hikers, see a shelter and even got a blister on his foot. When we finally summited the mountain, we found it to be a zoo. An auto road leads to the top and there is a full lodge and the top of the mountain is marked by a 150 foot war memorial that looks like a giant pawn. Oh yeah, the top lights up like a big lighthouse. We ate lunch and took in the good views from the top. Vermont loomed large to the North; we no longer have easy days of hiking.

The descent of Graylock was not difficult either, and very soon we had reached route 2 and the end of our day. After a pint of Ben and Jerry’s and a bus ride back to Dad’s car, we were on our way to Marlboro! Back at Dad’s house, I got to see mom, Mike, Cindy and, of course, my girlfriend. We all went out for a big dinner at TGI Friday’s. We were forced to shower and clean up first, of course, to the point that my mom would not even hug me!

Tomorrow is shaping up to be a zero day, which will be nice to heal up and relax.
