Given that Michelle came somewhat unprepared to do an overnight hike, DB and I came up with a slackpacking plan. Michelle and I would hike south while DB would drive to another location and hike north. Somewhere in the middle, we would meet, exchange the keys and at the end of the day, I would drive and pick him up.
The day started off with a nice walk through some flat part of Connecticut. Soon, however, we climbed up onto a ridge and were able to get various views of the mountains around us. Yes, there are mountains again. For a couple of miles, all we could hear was the lime rock race and on one view point we were able to watch some of the race as well.
We met DB at the halfway point and I got the keys to the car. Michelle and I walked a few more miles but after a tough descent with a 500+ foot climb ahead, she decided to bail on west Cornwall road. I then hurried to Cornwall Bridge, where we left the car so I could pick her up. I got the car, picked up Db and Michelle and then we tried to get a place to stay. There was no where to be found given that the small town of Salisbury was entertaining a car show and a large wedding.
So camping it would be. Using my map, I found a designated camping area only .2 miles off the road. We managed to get everything up the hill, set up and enjoy a somewhat cold beer before dark. Now it is dark and I am tired.
