Another great breakfast today, this time blueberry pancakes. Despite this positive note to start the day, most of the day was a downer since Michelle was leaving and her visit to see me was way to short. Almost immediately, I changed my plans from leaving around 1:00 to hanging around am long as I could before she had to leave. We left the Inn around noon and said goodbye to Mark and Janet, thanks guys you are the best! On our way back to Atkins, we swung by the Partnership Shelter again so I could drop off some fruit. There, I found Wildflower and Eric, from Blood Mountain! Eric's trail name is Buckeye and he says that he has been doing well since I last saw him. Wildflower is also doing well, but thinks that Monk is off the trail due to sickness. It was good to see those guys again. Michelle and I then went and ate lunch and spend the rest of the day just hanging out. Around 4:00, she had to leave to get to the airport for her flight. Not getting into the car with her was one of the toughest things I have had to do on the trip so far.
I then went to the Village Motel again to see who was hanging around there, and it was loaded with hikers. To name a few, there was Pan, Consolo, Man Who, Plumwhistle and Twisted Sister. Twisted Sister is all done today and is leaving for Vermont to start a new job taking kids into the woods! Sounds like a great job, good luck TS!
Finally, around 6:00, I made the decision to hike in the three miles to the next shelter, since I felt that if I stayed at the Motel, I would surely leave the trail.
