5/22/99 Double Springs Shelter

Miles Today : 23.3
Miles from Springer : 434.3

Let me just say one more time how great Dennis and Mary were at the Laurel Creek Lodge. Breakfast was again great and I got my second night for free for helping with the trail work. More than I expected for carring the gas!

Nothing too exciting today. The terrain has eased up some, allowing me to click off today's miles by 5:30. Got a message from Drive-By in one of the shelter registers. He and a few guys were attempting a 40 miles day/night hike to get to Damascus. More on the result and the "why" to this story tomorrow if I see him in town.

Well, that's it for today, short and sweet. I am tenting out tonight since the shelter is packed. Weather was rainy this morning but cleared mid-day. Hopefully I can pack my tent DRY tomorrow. Heading to the big D.
