5/10/99 Hot Springs - Day Off

Well, today was my first official day off the trail. My backpack never left the ground and my boots never got tied. I didn't know how I would handle an idle day, but it was great, exactly what I needed. After a good filling breakfast here at Elmer's, I did some laundry, made some phone calls, and lounged on the many porches. My legs and feet feel stronger, my stomach problem has improved and I am anxious to hit the trail tomorrow.

One bad piece of news today: Rick, who I have been hiking with the past few days, had to get off the trail today. With any luck, he will be able to jump back on in a week or two, maybe skip a section and jump ahead. Good luck Rick, I hope all turns out well.

Drive-By will be hitting the trail with me tomorrow. Hew worked for Elmer today to pay for his stay and food here at the Inn. Wish I had thought of that! Monk is taking another day off tommorrow to recoup his knees, but I know we haven't seen the last of him. Also, I ran into Joe tonight, the English guy from a few nights ago. He is doing well, excepts for some foot swelling problems.

Finally, Patch, Divine, Monk, Drive-By and I went to the hot springs in Hot Springs to relax in the "natural" water. I think it is a sham personally, and tub #5, the "Best" tub, overlooks a muddy river. Joy. Well, off to bed for now. Tomorrow it's a big breakfast and hopefully big mileage.
