4/28/99 Past Wayah Bald   Miles Today : 11 Miles from Springer : 118

Easy day since Mark, Wildflower, and I didn't get back to the trail until around noon. We walked to an outfitter in Franklin to get fuel etc...and turns out that there is a free shuttle service that runs from the store to the trailhead. SWEET!

A total of six of us, with the addition of Foghorn, Uphill and Breathe Easy, got dropped off around noon. We were met there by Drive-By, Fa Queen (formerly Allison), and Trail Princess (formerly Heather), as we had around 14 beers to carry up the mountain.

Today was pretty uneventful as the rain held off but the clouds ruined all of the possible views. We went over our first bald mountain which was maintained by controlled burning.

At the unofficial campsite just north of Wahah Bald, Dave, Sue, Breathe Easy, Uphill, Foghorn, Drive-By, Wildflower, Fah-Queen, Mark, and Trail Princess all met up for food, fire and laughs. Only one downside, the rain has started again and T-storms may continue throughout the Am. Tomorrow's distance is very weather dependent. I will try to make the 19 to N.O.C., but my knee has been a little unhappy lately and I have no desire to speed-hike in the rain. For now, I am full, warm, dry and having fun.
